Use Cohesity’s ServiceNow Extension to Manage Cohesity

One of the most important goals for technology leaders is to improve efficiencies and streamline workflows within their operations. CEOs and CIOs also need to make sure that they grow their revenue while providing their customers with better service at each step to keep customers satisfied.

In today’s environment, business automation has become an imperative to improve productivity, decrease costs, and improve efficiencies. This is precisely why so many organizations are moving towards enterprise software for business automation like ServiceNow, a leading cloud provider that delivers  an integrated and connected set of applications that allow you to dramatically improve your organizational workflows and operations.

Cohesity’s API-first design makes it easy to perform such integrations. Given the widespread adoption of ServiceNow, Cohesity chose to launch this integration as among our first ITSM automation extensions. The integration also leaves room for future feature updates that we will publish regularly.

In our constant pursuit to streamline the user’s experience, we provide the ability to manage multiple Cohesity clusters through a single ServiceNow instance. (Based on a typical ServiceNow deployment, our best practice recommendation would be to manage five Cohesity clusters with a single ServiceNow instance.)

The latest release (v4.1) of our extension for ServiceNow also supports the latest version of ServiceNow (Orlando), which empowers admins to use all the features of ServiceNow to manage Cohesity.

One exciting new feature in the ServiceNow Orlando release is Service Catalogs, and now you can use them to create self-service workflows for Cohesity clusters, as well!

You can get the Cohesity ServiceNow Extension  from the ServiceNow store

The Cohesity ServiceNow Extension supports these workflows:

  • VMware protection:
    1. Register VMware sources
    2. Protect VMware objects
    3. Restore files/VMs from VMware objects
  • Physical servers protection:
    1. Register windows and linux sources
    2. Protect physical servers
    3. Restore file and physical servers

Another feature of our Cohesity ServiceNow Extension is the support for bidirectional alerts management from ServiceNow using Cohesity Webhooks. You can configure Cohesity Webhooks to forward any alerts raised on Cohesity to ServiceNow as an Incident with all relevant information. These incidents can now be managed and resolved in ServiceNow, which will also resolve the alert on Cohesity. Check out the developer blog Use Webhooks to Manage Cohesity Alerts in ServiceNow to learn more.

There are plenty of resources, including video demos, blogs, and documentation, to get you started with our ServiceNow integration. Check out the ServiceNow landing page on the Cohesity Developer Portal!

In future releases of this extension, we plan to support more advanced Cohesity workflows. If there are workflows you’d like to see in an upcoming release, we would love to hear from you—Just send a note to the Cohesity API Integration team.
