1. What is Data Management as a Service (DMaaS), DataProtect, and SiteContinuity?

DMaaS radically simplifies the way data is backed up, secured, governed, and analyzed. It provides capacity-based pricing, eliminates infrastructure and silos, and consolidates data from multiple use cases such as data backup and archiving, disaster recovery, file and object services, copy data management, and analytics in a single unified service.

The first DMaaS offering is Cohesity DataProtect delivered as a Service which provides backup and recovery. Our second DMaaS offering is Cohesity SiteContinuity delivered as a Service which provides disaster recovery and is expected to be available for limited customer preview in early 2021.

2. How do I access and use DataProtect delivered as a Service?

Customers access and use DMaaS offerings like DataProtect directly through the Cohesity Helios multicloud platform.

3. How do I get started with my free trial?

Please sign up for the free trial here. Follow the activation email instructions to set up your account and start using your free trial.

4. How easy is it to set up?

Setup for both the free trial and the paid service is completely self-service. Setup time will vary depending on the size of your environment, but many customers have gotten set up to start backups in 30 minutes or less.

5. What security measures are used to keep my data safe?

Your data is secured both in transit and at rest and we give you the option to manage your own encryption keys or have our service manage them for you. For more information visit our Security & Trust page.

6. What compliance or security certifications do you have?

Cohesity has received our SOC II Type 1 certification. We plan to achieve SOC II Type II certification in calendar year 2021. We plan to continue to seek additional certifications in the future.

7. Can DataProtect delivered as a Service be used together with my existing Cohesity deployment?

Yes. DataProtect delivered as a Service can be used together with customer managed infrastructure. Cohesity Helios multi cloud data platform provides a single GUI that provides management and control for both DMaaS and customer-managed infrastructure running on-prem. In the case of DataProtect delivered as a Service, Helios also provides the data plane running in the Cohesity-managed cloud.

8. What workloads can DataProtect delivered as a Service back up?

DataProtect delivered as a Service supports backup of on-prem VMware and NAS files. Support for Microsoft 365 and enterprise databases such as Microsoft SQL Server is expected by the first calendar quarter of 2021. We plan to continue to add support for more on-prem and cloud workloads throughout 2021.

9. What retention policy is included with DataProtect delivered as a Service?

A 120 day retention policy is included by default. This is made up of 30 days on warm storage (such as S3), after which backup data is moved to cold storage such as S3 Glacier for an additional 90 days. If you require a different retention period we have additional options to suit your needs. Please contact us for more details.

10. What disaster recovery (DR) use cases and workloads does SiteContinuity delivered as a Service support?

Details on SiteContinuity delivered as a Service will follow shortly.

11. What service level agreement (SLAs) should I expect from your service?

Cohesity guarantees that the DataProtect delivered as a Service has an availability SLA of 99.9%. You can define your own backup SLAs and monitor performance through the Helios GUI. Please see our Service Level Agreement for more details.

12. What is Front End Terabyte (FETB) I am being billed on? Are there minimums?

Customers will be billed based on the front end terabyte (TB) used capacity on the data sources being protected. For example, if you have a 1TB provisioned disk volume with 95GB of files to back up, 95GB will count towards your capacity subscription. You can subscribe to as little as 1TB of capacity.

13. How do I subscribe/place an order?

You can order directly from AWS Marketplace or follow the “Buy Now on AWS Marketplace” button on our website. If your environment is larger than 25TB, or if you have specific requirements that need to be addressed, please contact us.

14. I am outside the US and Canada, can I subscribe to your services?

DMaaS offerings are only available to customers in the United States and Canada at this time. We expect to announce availability in other geographies in the first half of 2021.

15. How is DMaaS different from other backup-as-a-service products?

DMaaS goes well beyond backup and will be the most comprehensive SaaS-based service in the market. Others are merely a point backup as a service solution. Here is how we are different:

  • One Platform: With backup generally available, and DR coming soon, we continue to roll out more services and provide the most comprehensive portfolio of data management services on a single platform and GUI.
  • Unified Data Management: Our backup service provides rich protection and data services, and enables unified protection of applications on-prem, in the cloud, as well as SaaS.
  • Delivered the Way You Want: Manage your own data and infrastructure, or have Cohesity manage the infrastructure for you with DMaaS. With either option – or both – we make it simple for you to manage your data no matter where it resides.

16. I am not using AWS cloud, can I still use your DMaaS offerings?

Yes. Like many SaaS products – we built on top of one cloud provider, but the DMaaS offerings are intended to provide universal coverage for all types of workloads, whether those sources are from other cloud providers or SaaS applications. For example, we announced support for Microsoft 365 which is planned for first quarter 2021 and expect to support other cloud and SaaS sources in the future.
