NetBackup can also use VAST Data as a storage target for archival/long-term retention—a tertiary copy for added resilience and fulfilling compliance requirements.
- DataProtect using VAST Data as a storage target for archival/long-term retention: DataProtect retains only secondary data on the Cohesity cluster and automatically offloads archive data (tertiary copy) to more cost-effective storage on VAST for optimized long-term retention—fulfilling regulatory and compliance requirements while balancing costs.
Either way, the VAST Data Platform is differentiated with its disaggregated, shared-everything architecture, enabling customers to scale compute and storage independently, leading to more optimized backup and recovery while keeping costs in check. VAST achieves archive economics via support for high-density low-cost flash, ultra-efficient data protection codes, and revolutionary similarity-based data reduction that extracts savings even on data already deduplicated by NetBackup.
