NetBackup 11.1: Powering a new era of data resilience

Advancing data resilience, improving cloud agility, and simplifying data protection for modern enterprises like yours.

Street at sunset

By joining forces with Veritas last December, Cohesity unified two of the most trusted names in enterprise data protection. Since then, we’ve moved quickly to deliver a bold vision for Cohesity NetBackup—combining industry-leading backup and recovery with cutting-edge data resilience. Our goal is to create a foundation that helps organizations defend against threats, accelerate cloud adoption, and simplify operations like never before.

It’s amazing to think about what we’ve achieved in only 11 months. We now have centralized management for both NetBackup and Cohesity DataProtect, new ecosystem partnerships, integrated threat detection and anomaly defense across the portfolio, and best of all, a unified product roadmap focused on hybrid cloud protection. And now, we’re excited to announce the latest milestone in this journey—NetBackup 11.1— which delivers even greater performance, security, and operational simplicity.

Building on our foundation with NetBackup 11.1

This release is built around three core pillars:

  • Cyber resilience – Detect and contain threats faster, ensure clean recoveries, and minimize downtime.
  • Cloud optimized – Simplify and accelerate protection across public and private clouds.
  • Simplified operations – Automate data management, streamline day-to-day tasks, and unify protection for today’s diverse workloads.

Let’s take a closer look at what’s new.

Cyber resilience: Detect sooner, recover faster

With threats like ransomware becoming more sophisticated, NetBackup 11.1 enhances visibility and control before, during, and after an attack.

  • A new Freeze Mode acts like a digital “red stop button,” allowing administrators to rapidly lock down the environment during a cyber event—halting restores, changes, or expirations.
  • A new Maintenance Mode enables safer upgrades in a temporary, time-bound state that auto-reverts to lockdown.
  • YARA rule-based scanning allows security teams to import external threat feeds and detect malware patterns, using the same tools that security researchers employ worldwide.
  • A new Stop-on-Infection workflow halts scans at the first detected threat, flags the image, and moves to the next recovery point—saving compute time and improving RTO.
  • Also, you can now choose Sophos malware scanning as an approved malware engine, complementing existing detection methods with one of the industry’s most trusted brands.
Freeze Options

With these cyber resilience innovations, NetBackup 11.1 isn’t just about recovery. It’s about readiness. We’re empowering you to act faster, recover cleaner, and maintain trust even during the toughest moments.

Cloud optimized: Unified protection, limitless scalability

  • With new unified snapshot management, you can now orchestrate consistent snapshots, replication, and restores from a single control plane across both cloud and on-premises workloads.
  • We’ve also expanded cloud database protection by adding incremental backup support for Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon RDS for SQL Server, and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL. By using native APIs, backup windows and storage consumption are minimized—enabling tighter RPOs and faster recovery.
  • Finally, new Oracle Private Cloud Appliance support allows enterprises running Oracle workloads to protect VMs in private OCI-compatible environments using the same framework as public cloud assets.

These cloud-optimized enhancements help you achieve better compliance, greater efficiency, and cost control—all within a unified NetBackup experience for seamless protection across clouds and data centers alike.

Simplified operations: Automation for modern workloads

Today’s enterprises don’t live in a single virtual world. VMware, Nutanix, KVM, and cloud VMs all coexist—and IT teams need data protection that keeps pace. NetBackup 11.1 delivers unified protection and mobility across virtualization platforms:

  • Native backup and recovery for KVM workloads is now supported. Configuration, discovery, and recovery all happen directly within the NetBackup Web UI, eliminating the need for third-party tools.
  • With Nutanix AHV Instant Access, users can now restore VMware backups directly to a Nutanix AHV cluster, unlocking seamless data mobility across virtualization platforms.
  • Last but definitely not least, our new NetBackup DirectIO integration allows you to connect to Cohesity SpanFS®—the flexible, fast, and distributed file system that powers Cohesity Data Cloud. This new integration provides higher recovery speeds, network optimization, and lower cost—turning any NetBackup environment into a modernized, high-performance platform with exceptional speed and scale.

With DirectIO and so many other enhancements to simplify operations, we’re providing a remarkably resilient, efficient, and unified platform built for customers who can’t afford downtime or compromise

The evolution continues

From the AI-driven anomaly detection in version 10 to our adaptive risk analytics in version 11.0—and now advanced data resilience in version 11.1, NetBackup continues to evolve as the trusted foundation for enterprise data protection. With every release, our goal remains the same: to help organizations safeguard their data, ensure business continuity, and operate with confidence in an unpredictable world.
