Sanjay Poonen

CEO and President

As Chief Executive Officer and President, Sanjay Poonen leads Cohesity in its mission to radically simplify how organizations manage their data and unlock limitless value. Sanjay is a proven business executive with over 25 years of experience in scaling multi-billion dollar businesses and building strong teams. Most recently, Sanjay was COO at VMware, where he oversaw sales, marketing, services and alliances, doubling VMware from approximately $6B to $12B in revenue. Poonen played a vital role in architecting multiple successful cloud partnerships, including AWS, Microsoft, Google, and Oracle. He also led the company’s security and end-user computing businesses, including the acquisition of AirWatch and Carbon Black. Prior to VMware, Poonen served as President of SAP where he led SAP’s Applications, Industries and Platform teams, serving in engineering and sales roles that helped double SAP from approximately $10B to $20B in revenue.

He began his career as a software engineer at Microsoft and Apple. Sanjay has an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he graduated a Baker Scholar which designates his position in the top 5% of his graduating class, a master’s degree in management science and engineering from Stanford University, and a bachelor’s degree in computer science, math and engineering from Dartmouth College, where he graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Sanjay holds two patents. Poonen serves on the Supervisory Board of Philips, and Board of Snyk.

As Chief Technology and Product Officer, Mohit Aron leads the company’s R&D, support and services as well as the Office of the CTO. Mohit has over 20 years of experience in building scalable, high- performance distributed systems, and has been attributed as the father of hyperconvergence. Mohit founded Cohesity in 2013 and has grown the company into a leading provider of next-gen data management. He also co-founded Nutanix as the CTO, now a public company and leader in hyperconverged technology, in 2009. Prior to co-founding Nutanix, Mohit was at Google as a lead developer on the Google File System, the software that manages data on Google’s large scale clusters. Aron graduated with a Ph.D. in computer science from Rice University with a focus on distributed systems. He also holds a bachelor of science in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi India. In 2018, he received the “Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award” from Rice University and also received the Distinguished Alumni Award from IIT Delhi in 2019.

As Chief Financial Officer, Robert manages Cohesity’s financial strategy as the software company expands its cloud services, redefines modern data management, and continues on a path of consistent and long-term growth. Robert’s 30 years of experience includes significant exposure leading finance and business organizations in data management, cloud, software, and subscription-based services companies. Most recently, Robert served as CFO at DataStax for nearly three years. Prior to that role, he was CFO at Pivotal Software, a cloud-based software company that was later acquired by VMware. O’Donovan has also held finance, operations, and sales roles at Dell/EMC in Europe and Asia Pacific/Japan. Originally from Ireland, Robert studied at the Cork Institute of Technology, earning his ACCA accountancy qualification.

Prior to joining us, Lynn was CMO at Veritas where she led the new branding and successful repositioning as a multi-cloud data management company after separation from Symantec. Before Veritas, Lynn served as CMO at Good Technology where she led global marketing, culminating in a sale to Blackberry to establish their mobile security software platform. Prior to Veritas, Lynn was with Cisco Systems, where she served in various executive roles, most recently as Vice President, Global Collaboration Marketing leading marketing for the $5B collaboration business encompassing telepresence, unified communications and WebEx. Lynn holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

As Chief Revenue Officer, Kit leads Cohesity’s global go-to-market organization.

Kit was previously Senior Vice President of global accounts and telcos at VMware, where he was responsible for VMware’s largest and most strategic global customers, in addition to leading some of the largest sales verticals. 

Over the past three decades, Kit has held leadership roles across a range of innovative technology companies, including VMware, Uhana, and Cisco. With a focus on building high-performing, diverse teams, he brings a combination of enterprise sales expertise and technical acumen to the organization.

Kit is a patent holder in VoIP technology and received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Computer Science from Gettysburg College.

As Chief Customer Experience Officer, Karen has global responsibility for the company’s customer experience, including Professional Services, Success and Support teams. Based in Cork, Ireland, Karen brings more than 27 years of experience in the software and IT industry, with 20 years in technical support. Before joining Cohesity, Egan served as a SVP of Global Support at VMware, where she was responsible for global technical support, customer escalations, and critical account engagements for all VMware’s solutions. Under her leadership, the team worked to ensure a seamless and excellent support experience for enterprise, commercial, and SMB customers across all product suites including on-premises, SaaS, and hybrid offerings. Egan also drove and implemented the transformation across VMware’s support operations to align with the company’s transition from perpetual license to subscription and SaaS offerings. Prior to her 15-year tenure at VMware, Egan held roles at Motorola and Apple. Egan earned her bachelor’s of arts degree in mathematics and computers, and a higher diploma in applied science from University College Cork.

His most recent work includes architecting the current Search Ads Backend and redesigning the Ads Reporting Backend at Google, and building a NLP search engine for simplifying datacenter management at ArkinNet.

In his 30+ years of experience, Kirk has led development teams in both startups and larger corporations. Prior to Cohesity, Kirk was Senior Vice President of Development at Tableau Software, helping people see and understand their data. Before joining Tableau, he was Senior Vice President of Engineering at Primary Data, developing intelligent automation software for enterprise data management. Previously, he was Vice President of Engineering at SanDisk. He also spent over 12 years at NetApp in several engineering leadership roles, and more than 14 years at Silicon Graphics. 

Kirk is on the Board of Directors for the national non-profit organization Raising a Reader, and holds memberships with the following organizations: the Executive Leadership Council, Sigma Pi Phi fraternity, the National Society of Black Engineers, and Eta Kappa Nu, the Purdue EE Honor Society.

Kirk holds both a BSEE and MSEE degree from Purdue University.

For the past decade, she has worked extensively with public Boards of Directors, with emphasis on compensation and nominating/governance committee work. Most recently, she was the Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer for Symantec Corporation (now Nortonlifelock), where, as a trusted advisor to the CEO and the other members of the executive leadership team, she focused on global HR, real estate, and corporate diversity, equity, and inclusion.

In addition to her board roles, Amy is a member of the Betterworks HR Advisory Council and the Hitch Advisory Council focused on talent management practices. An accomplished keynote speaker at multiple industry conferences and a senior advisor to corporations in the areas of developing high-performance cultures, building productive comp committee/HR relationships, creating diverse and inclusive workforces, and successfully navigating M&A and divestitures.

Amy was named to the Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Technology by the National Diversity Council in 2018 and awarded the role of Distinguished Alumni under the John Chambers School of Business and Economics, West Virginia University, in 2019. She earned her M.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations and her B.S. in Journalism/Public Relations from West Virginia University.
