Cohesity Jumps 4 Spots in 2 Years for the Cloud Environments Use Case in the Gartner® Critical Capabilities Report

Gartner released their 2022 Critical Capabilities for Enterprise Backup and Recovery Software Solutions, and Cohesity DataProtect jumped four spots in two years to #2 for the Cloud Environments use case. We are thrilled to be recognized by Gartner as the market continues to move more mission-critical applications and datasets to the cloud.

Our rapid rise on the leaderboard from #6 in 2020, to #4 in 2021, and to #2 in 2022 is a testament to the rapid innovation which saw the introduction of our Backup as a Service offering in late 2020 and new capabilities and improvements in our next-gen data management platform over the past two years to meet customer needs.

2022 Gartner Critical Capabilities

One common thing we see as organizations move along their cloud journeys is the false perception that there is a shift in responsibility from the customer to the cloud provider. This may be true for infrastructure and uptime service level agreements (SLAs), but when it comes to data protection and security this lies squarely on the shoulders of the customer. To put it simply: It’s your data and therefore your responsibility to protect and secure it.

Cloud’s Built-in Protections Are Limited

None of the major cloud providers are listed in the Gartner Critical Capabilities report. Even though each major cloud provider provides some level of data protection features such as retention, versioning, or snapshots—they are only designed for their own cloud and not others. And none of them deliver the all necessary capabilities that most organizations need for sufficient protection against today’s sophisticated cybercriminals and insider threats.

Have you considered what would happen if your cloud data was attacked by ransomware or your cloud account that has access to both your production and backup data was compromised? You don’t want to be in that position without a modern third-party backup solution on your side.

Legacy Approaches Fail in Today’s Cloud Era

Most legacy backup products were designed for the data center and not natively for cloud workloads and data.  Some have added cloud gateways that allow you to push data to cloud storage to reduce costs, but that doesn’t solve your cloud data protection problem. Some may allow you to deploy their dated software in the cloud, require multiple cloud instances and proxies just to do some basic backups adding a lot of unneeded infrastructure and complexity to your cloud environment. Others may offer a completely different product to protect your cloud and SaaS applications that requires you to relearn and retool, while adding yet another silo to manage and secure.

Cohesity’s Modern and Flexible Approach to Cloud Data Protection

When you consider that no two cloud journeys are the same between different organizations—there can be no one-size-fits-all solution for cloud data protection. That’s why Cohesity offers a flexible approach with our next-gen data management platform and gives customers the ultimate choice and simplicity in protecting their cloud data.

As noted by Gartner, Cohesity DataProtect software can be deployed in your own data centers or in the cloud of your choice between Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and VMware Cloud giving you flexibility and control over your data management environment.  But that’s not all. We know that many of you are moving to the cloud to reduce infrastructure and software management, so we also offer DataProtect in a Backup as a Service offering where Cohesity manages all the infrastructure and software so you can just focus on securing and protecting your data.

The beauty with Cohesity DataProtect is no matter which deployment or management model you choose, it’s all running on the same platform and managed through the same UI. Simplify operations and gain better visibility for all your data across your hybrid and multicloud estate by managing using a single pane of glass. Whether you need to protect VMs or databases running in the cloud or SaaS applications like Microsoft 365. Cohesity has you covered with a single solution that can fit now and adapt into the future with your cloud journey.
